Crochet Flower Basket

Last weekend I was at a very nice fair here in the Netherlands called Knit and Knot (knot means skein in Dutch). I gave a  workshop there, making these little flower baskets and now I want to share the tutorial with all of you.

            
Materials:
I used a
mercerized 100% cotton ( Durable Coral minis) with hook 2,5mm
And glue mixed
with water to stiffen it up
Abbreviations US terms:
st  stitch
ss  slipstitch
ch  chain
sc  single crochet
hdc half double crochet
dc  double crochet
tr   triple crochet
ch1-sp  chain 1 space
2sctog  2 single crochet together
 
 
Instructions:
With color 1, make a magic ring
or ch3, close with ss in first ch,
to form ring.
round  1: ch 2 (=1dc), 11dc in ring, close with ss in 2nd ch.
(12 in total)
round 2: ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, *(dc,
ch, dc) in next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * 4 more times, close with ss
in second ch from beginning.
round 3: ch 2, *(dc,
ch, dc) in ch1-sp, dc in next 4 st, repeat from *  4 more times,
(dc, ch, dc) in ch1-sp, dc in next 3 and close with ss in
second ch from beginning. Fasten off and tuck away end.
With color 2, make 6 more
hexagons like above but now keep long ends, about 25 cm.
Sew the six hexagons with color 2 around the hexagon with
color 1. (see picture tutorial)
 Border:

 

Join color 1 in ch1-sp with a ss and make a *sc ,
sc in next 5 st, 2sc tog, sc in next 5 st, sc in ch1-sp, sc in next st, hdc in
next, (dc, tr) in next, (tr, dc) in next, hdc in next, sc in next, repeat from
* all around.

To
stiffen up the basket I mixed equal parts water and (wood)glue, soaked the flower in
this mixture , squeezed it a bit and let it dry over a bowl covered with
plastic wrap.
