Sakura Shawl

Sakura is Japanese for cherry blossom. One of my Instagram followers (bee.makes) mentioned it and I thought it was the perfect name for this beauty!

You can get the free photo tutorial below or support me by purchasing the ad-free printer-friendly PDF version of this pattern with charts and written instructions on Etsy or Ravelry.

About the yarn

I made this one with a Colourful yarn cake (nr 5001) by Durable, which is a dutch yarn brand. Unfortunately its not available yet in the UK or US but this dutch website Caro’s Atelier might ship it worldwide.

This yarn is not twisted, which makes it a bit of a challenge, but believe me you’ll get the hang of it and it sure is worth it! The result is really really nice and stays nice even after washing and wearing it a lot. TIP: Using a Clover hook will make a huge difference. Clover Amour is my favorite hook anyway but especially with splitty yarn, I couldn’t do without my Clover hook. If you are a bit unsure about using yarn that’s not twisted, then use a populair yarn cake like Whirl

Instructions:

(sorry we miss a photo here) WS 3ch, (ps, 1ch, ps) in 1ch-sp,1 dc in between ps and dc, 5ch, sc in 4th dc from row 3, 1ch, skip next st, sc in next st, 5ch, 1dc in between dc and ps, (ps, 1ch, ps) in 1ch-sp,1 dc in between ps and beg ch. Turn

Now repeat row 12 – 15 (pictures 30-33) with an extra repetition * in every row as many times as possible (or until you reached desired size)and make sure you have some yarn left for the tassels. I did 81 rows.

For the tassels I cut 30 threads of 30 cm, 2x. ( 3 tassels in total, but the first one you already cut before you started). I used a Clover Tasselmaker to cut the threads. I love this tool I use it all the time!
