Swirly Stars Free Crochet pattern

Every year I share a FREE pattern with you, my sweet followers, for Christmas! This year I made up these Swirly Stars and I can’t wait to see your creations on Instagram and Facebook, so please don t forget to tag or hashtag me in your posts and photo’s!

Materials: 

You can use any kind of yarn with matching hook size. 

For the sparkly ones I used Glam by Durableyarn, 75% cotton and 25% polyester, 50gr/130m with hook 4mm

For the other ones I used Double four by Durableyarn 100% cotton, 100gr/150m with hook 4mm

Abbreviations US terms: 

beg beginning
st stitch/stitches
ch chain 

slst slip stitch
sc single crochet
hdc half double crochet
dc double crochet
fsc foundation single crochet

fhdc foundation half double crochet

fdc foudation double crochet.

Special stitches:

fsc: insert hook, yarn over, pull through a loop, yarn over, pull through 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.

fhdc: yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through a loop, yarn over, pull through 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.

fdc: yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through a loop, yarn over, pull through 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2loops, yarn over and pull through 2loops

Note:

When inserting the hook in the foundation of a previous foundation stitch, make sure you put through front and back loop.

Instructions:

With color 1 make magic ring

Round 1: 1ch (=1sc), 9sc in ring, close with slst in ch from beg. Totaal 10sc

Round 2: 1sc in beg ch from round 1, (1hdc, 1dc) in next st, * take hook out   and leave long loop, join new color (color 2) in next st with slst, 1sc in same st, (1hdc, 1dc) in next st, repeat from* for color 3, 4 and 5.

Round 3: pick up loop from color 1 and *work 1dc in the sc from round 1 from next color, 2dc in next st, 1dc in next st, take hook out leave long loop, pick up loop from next color (color 2) and repeat from * for color 3, 4 and 5.

Round 4: pick up loop from color 1 and *work 1dc in next st from next color (color2) ,1dc in next st and in this same st, work 1fdc, then work 1fdc in the foundation of previous stitch, [1fhdc in foundation of previous st] 2 times, 1fsc in foundation of the previous st, 1ch, quarter turn clockwise and now work in the foundation stitches, 1sc in the fsc, [1hdc in the fhdc] 2times, [1dc in the fdc] 2 times and 1dc in same st as first dc, now pick up loop from next color (color 2) and pull through (you can now cut yarn color 1), and repeat from * , for color 3, 4 and 5 and end this last one with a slst in the first dc (color 1) from round 4. Cut yarn and work away ends.

Photo Tutorial:

Round 1: 1ch (=1sc), 9sc in ring, close with slst in ch from beg. Totaal 10sc

Round 2: 1sc in beg ch from round 1, (1hdc, 1dc) in next st, * take hook out and leave long loop, join new color (color 2) in next st with slst, 1sc in same st, (1hdc, 1dc) in next st, repeat from* for color 3, 4 and 5.  

Round 3: pick up loop from color 1 and *work 1dc in the sc from round 1 from next color, 2dc in next st, 1dc in next st, take hook out leave long loop, pick up loop from next color (color 2) and repeat from * , for color 3, 4 and 5.

Round 4: pick up loop from color 1 and *work 1dc in next st from next color (color2), 1dc in next st and in this same st, work 1fdc, yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up loop 

Yarn over and pull through 1 loop, now finish like normal dc. 

then work 1fdc in the foundation of previous stitch

Then work 1fhdc in the foundation of previous stitch 

1fhdc in the foundation of previous stitch

1fsc in the foundation of previous stitch 

1ch, quarter turn clockwise and now work in the foundation stitches, 1sc in the fsc, [1hdc in the fhdc] 2times, [1dc in the fdc] 2 times,

1dc in same st as first dc, now pick up loop from next color, 

pull through (you can now cut yarn color 1), repeat from *

end the last one with a slst in the first dc (color 1) from round 4. Cut yarn and work away ends.

Rather make a star with 6 points? Just work 2sc extra in round one and make one extra repetition in next rounds.
