Swirly Heart Square FREE Crochet Pattern

Remember my Swirly Hearts? I made squares with them! This time I used Stylecraft Special DK , perfect yarn to make a blanket with!

Materials: 

You can use any kind of yarn with matching hook size.

I used Stylecraft Special DK with hook 4mm and my square measures 12x12cm.

Abbreviations US terms:

beg beginning

st stitch/stitches 

ss slip stitch

ch chain

sc single crochet

hdc half double crochet

dc double crochet

edc extended double crochet

tr triple crochet

dtr double triple crochet

1ch-sp 1chain space

Extended Double Crochet:starts out like a normal dc, yarn over once and insert hook, draw up a loop (three loops on hook), yarn over and draw through one loop (three loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through two loops twice.

Instructions:

With color 1 make magic ring

Round 1: 1ch(does not count as sc), 6sc in ring

Round 2: (1sc, 1hdc) in first sc from round 1, 2dc in next 2 st, take hook out and leave long loop, join color 2 in this same st with slst, (1sc,1hdc) in next st, 2dc in next 2 st, take hook out and leave long loop.

Round 3: pick up loop from color 1 and work 2dc in next 6 st, take hook out and leave long loop, pick up loop from color 2 and work 2dc in next 6 st, take hook out and leave long loop

Round 4: pick up loop from color 1 and work [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 3x, take hook out and leave long loop, pick up loop from color 2 and work [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 2x, 1dc in next st, (1dc, 1edc) in next st.

Round 5: continue with color 2, (1tr, 1edc)in next st, [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 2x, 1dc in next, (1dc, 1edc) in next st, 2tr in next st, 2dtr in next st, 3dtr in next st, (1dtr, 1tr, 1edc) in next st, 1dc in next st, 1hdc in next st, slst in next st, cut yarn and fasten off, pick up loop from color 1 and work (1edc, 1tr, 1dtr) in next st, 3dtr in next st, 2dtr in next 2 st, 2tr in next st, (1tr, 1edc) in next st, 1dc in next 2 st, 1hdc in next 2 st, 1sc in next 3 st, slst in next 2, cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Round 6: Join color 3 in the tr from previous round at the bottom, 1ch (=1sc), 1sc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 1dc in next st, 1edc in next st, (1tr, 1dtr) in next st, (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) in next st, (1dtr, 1tr) in next st, 1edc in next st, 1dc in next st, 1hdc in next 2 st, 1sc in next 3st, 1hdc in next st, 1dc in next st, (1dc, 1edc) in next st, (1tr, 1ch, 1tr) in next st, (1edc, 1dc) in next st, 1dc in next 3 st, 1edc in next st, 1tr in next st, 1edc in next st, 1dc in next 3st, (1dc, 1edc) in next st, (1tr, 1ch, 1tr) in next st, (1edc, 1dc) in next st, 1dc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 1sc in next 3 st, 1hdc in next 2 st, 1dc in next st, 1edc in next st, (1tr, 1dtr) in next st, (1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr) in next st, (1dtr, 1tr) in next st, 1edc in next st, 1dc in next st, 1hdc in next st, 1sc in next st, close with slst in ch from beg. 

Round 7: 2ch (=1hdc), 1hdc in next 6 st, (1hdc, 1dc) in next st, (1dc, 1ch, 1dc) in 1ch-sp, *(1dc, 1hdc) in next st, 1hdc in next 13st, (1hdc, 1dc) in next st, (1dc, 1ch, 1dc) in 1ch-sp, repeat from * 2 more times, (1dc, 1hdc) in next st, 1hdc in next 6st, close with slst in sec ch from beg. Cut yarn and fasten off, weave in end.
